Despite decades of activity and having crossed paths in various collaborations Editions Mego is honoured to release the first ever duo recording from two of the most highly regarded citizens of planet experimental electronic. Individually, Jim O’Rourke and Christian Fennesz have been responsible for numerous legendary works which merge the traditional avant-garde with contemporary sensibilities. On It’s Hard For Me To Say I’m Sorry these giants of experimental electronic practice come together for an immensely powerful sonic experience.

The signature of both O’Rourke and Fennesz cohabit this new release with O’Rourke’s gurgling harmonies swimming amongst the shimmering frequencies and strummed melodies produced by Fennesz. Two side long tracks situate themselves as a warm electronic adventure. Simultaneously radical and comforting these works shift from gentle sonorities to fully distorted explosions all of which reside within a template of tension between musical and non-music matter.

Timeless in execution and presentation It’s Hard For Me To Say I’m Sorry is a deeply rewarding sonic experience from two of the most romantic gentlemen active in experimental music today.

Evocando la forza e l'energia di John Coltrane, Anthony Braxton e Don Cherry e altresì accogliendo le pulsioni contemporanee dei Godspeed You! Black Emperor, l'artista ha evoluto forme e tecniche sperimentali superando le perplessità suscitate dall'esordio "Chicago Project".

Anni di ricerca e studi sul rapporto culturale tra musica e storia della creatività umana, attraverso oggetti e racconti capaci di edificare una storia geologica e antropologica degli africani in America, rendono "Coin Coin Charter One: Les Gens De Coleur Libres" l'album più interessante e intenso della sua carriera discografica.
Matana Roberts ha impresso nelle otto tracce tutte le ambizioni musicali e narrative, realizzando un album spirituale che amplifica il concetto di world music finora conosciuto.

Storie e personaggi che animano un impressionante viaggio liberatorio, la musica si evolve dalla rabbia di "Rise" alla consapevolezza di "I Am", forgiando nuovi canti di libertà ("Libation For Mr. Brown: Bid Em In...") e coscienza sociale ("How Much Would You Cost?").
Musica priva di compromessi, un linguaggio sonoro apparentemente asciutto e ostico, che si trasforma in un racconto intimo e sofferente nella tormentata nenia vocale di "Lulla/bye" e sfronda la prevedibilità di molta musica free-jazz nella già citata e superba "Rise".

Matana Roberts è affascinata non solo dalle tracce reali di una storia, ma anche dai fantasmi che ne evocano il tono leggendario, ancestrale e magico. "Kersaia" non è solo una celebrazione della storia e della cultura africana; mentre le ossessive e deliziose trame sonore si diluiscono con malsano torpore, le voci sembrano sbucare dal passato, come anime che si raccolgono sulla terra per raccontarci una verità troppo presto dimenticata.

Storie di dolore espresse con dignità ("Song For Eulalie"), ma anche con disperazione in "Pov Piti", uno straziante jazz-blues torturato dal violino, con il sax che racconta lo sgomento di un orfano che ha perso i genitori per colpa della febbre gialla.
Matana Roberts realizza il suo grande sogno di musicista, ovvero rappresentare l'antropologia del dolore e della breve felicità che accompagna la storia di un popolo schiavizzato. La musica di "Coin Coin Charter One: Les Gens De Coleur Libres" è solo a tratti prevedibile e consueta, lo spirito e la forza narrativa contengono tracce rilevanti di inventiva, conoscenza, rabbia e vulnerabilità umana con un gusto che nessun altro album del genere saprà darvi.
Lode alla Costellation per aver impresso coraggio e innovazione alla musica jazz con alcune opere (Colin Stetson) capaci di riconciliare il pubblico della musica con un genere spesso considerato solo per addetti.

Temporary Residence Ltd. is proud to present the remastered and repackaged reissue of the legendary Bitch Magnet's seminal and critically acclaimed three albums - Star Booty, Umber, andBen Hur. The deluxe 3xLP or 3xCD package include all three albums, plus more than a half dozen rare and previously unreleased tracks, a total of 34 songs, remastered from the original, restored analog master tapes. Bitch Magnet was formed at Oberlin College in 1986. Immediately following the release of its debut Star Booty in 1988, the band garnered rapturous reviews and established itself among the top-tier of America's independent music underground. The band's reputation continued to grow with tours of the US and Europe, and the subsequent releases of Umber (prominently included by Mojo on its list of "Lost Albums You Must Own") in 1989 and Ben Hur in 1990. The latter two have been frequently cited as a key inspiration for what would become known as "post-rock," a term that baffled and amused the members of Bitch Magnet when it first surfaced, and still does today. Along with their contemporaries in Slint, in the years following their breakup, Bitch Magnet has been recognized as a significant influence on generations of aggressive and musically complex bands, including Don Caballero, Mogwai, Rodan, June of 44 and Battles.
